Out-of-Loop Motion Compensation for Reduced Complexity Video Encoding+
نویسنده
چکیده
To reduce the complexity of a video encoder, we introduce a new approach to global motion compensation related to the conventional hybrid DPCM-transform method in which the motion compensation is performed outside the feedback loop as shown in Fig. I. Within this framework, many specific implementations are possible, and we study a few of them here. While the basic idea is conceptually similar to the pan compensation proposed by Taubman and Zakhor for their 3D subband coder, our method continually tracks and updates the image in the feedback loop in the same way as a conventional hybrid system. Using both residual energy and reconstruction error as metrics, Fig. 2 shows that the new motion compensation scheme compares very favorably to the conventional one.

New adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation
Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...

Many of the forthcoming video services and multimedia applications are expected to use preencoded video for storage and transmission. Video transcoding is intended to provide transmission flexibility to preencoded bit streams by dynamically adjusting the bit rate of these bit streams according to new bandwidth constraints that were unknown at the time of encoding. In this paper, we propose a dr...

Motion compensated wavelet (MC-Wavelet) video coding provides high coding efficiency and robustness along with spatio-temporal-SNR-complexity scalability. Such schemes use a multi-resolution motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) decomposition along with the spatial wavelet transform to remove video redundancy. These multi-resolution transforms partition the spatiotemporal sequence-volume...
متن کاملDynamic frame skipping for high-performance transcoding
Transcoding is a process of converting a previously compressed video bitstream into a lower bit-rate bitstream. When some incoming frames are dropped for the frame-rate conversion in transcoding, the newly quantized DCT coefficients of prediction error need to be re-computed, which can create an undesirable complexity as well as introduce re-encoding error. In this paper, we propose new archite...
